LS Falls To Needham In Division 1 Quarterfinals

June 6, 2024

Sudbury, MA - Lincoln-Sudbury got off to a fast start in Friday's Division 1 boys lacrosse quarterfinal, but Needham took control and never looked back, securing a 14-7 win to advance to the Final Four.

The Warriors struck early, scoring three goals in the first 3:28. Brendan Dooley opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, followed by quick goals from Brady Malo and Nolan Martindale. Lincoln-Sudbury controlled possession in the first quarter and led 4-2 early in the second, but the momentum quickly shifted.

Needham responded with a dominant stretch, scoring 10 consecutive goals over 15 minutes and 51 seconds, spanning halftime. Jimmy Kenny tied the game at 4-4 with 6:27 left in the second quarter, and Spencer Chapman put the Rockets ahead just a minute later. In the final minute of the half, Needham poured in three more goals, including a buzzer-beater from Stephen Rocamboli off the faceoff, giving them an 8-4 lead at the break.

The Rockets continued their attack in the third quarter, with Cal Sullivan scoring just over a minute in. They extended their lead to 11-4 before Lincoln-Sudbury finally broke through with Owen Greene’s goal midway through the third, assisted by Kaeden Ryan. However, the deficit was too much to overcome.

Needham (16-5) controlled possession and capitalized on faceoffs, limiting LS’s opportunities. The Warriors (13-7) had no answer for the Rockets’ relentless attack and suffered their most lopsided loss of the season.

With the win, Needham moves on to the state semifinals, where they will face either Acton-Boxborough or Andover.
